The Christian life often entails times of spiritual uncertainty—situations in which we are unsure of God’s will, confused about what God is doing in our circumstances, or generally dry in our relationship with God. Spiritual direction is a safe place to explore your questions and concerns about your life with God.

A Christ-centered spiritual director is a trained listener who will accompany you as you share about your spiritual journey, helping you to notice God’s presence and activity along the way, as well as your personal reactions and responses. Hospitable, confidential, and grounded in biblical truth, spiritual direction is a ministry that helps you grow in prayer and live into your calling as a follower of Christ.

I usually open with an exercise that allows us to be present to God. Often, I read a simple Scripture and then we have moments of silence to pay attention to what is stirring inside.  It's a safe place to say aloud what you're noticing, feeling, and thinking.  We take pauses to ask God to speak in the silence.  We listen together for what His invitation may be, and we make time and space to experience God's presence.

Distinct from other forms of companionship – discipling, mentoring, coaching, pastoring – spiritual direction is laser focused on helping another listen attentively to the voice of God. When we have a trusted confidante helping us notice and prefer God in all aspects of our life, we grow in our affection for God. Holy listening transforms us into a person of discernment.  (Sue Currie)

We don't have a "problem" to be fixed, and the agenda is not set by us.  We let the Holy Spirit direct our time to present things that He is doing in you.  Often, it's a space to experience the presence and grace of God and not a problem solving or outcomes-based space.

Meet Joyce

 Hi! I am a recovering striving perfectionist. At Duke working on my chemistry degree, God pursued me and captured my heart. I became a reformed introvert and got a certificate to teach secondary education general science.  Then I pursued others in high school campus ministry for 7 yrs. God used marriage, motherhood and disappointments to bring me back to the purpose of oneness with Him.  I received my Certificate of Spiritual Direction with Leadership Transformations, Selah program.   Now active in a different way, I co-lead Known Mentoring, teach ESL Bible lessons, participate with JourneyMates, and facilitate simple worship/bible study.  I run our family real estate business (rentals and renovations) which gives me flexibility to drive my kids around and to offer spiritual direction while the kids are in school.   I'm curious about people, ask good questions, and would love to listen with you. God's got a great sense of humor and He is compassionate towards you.
